Global tech giants returned to Las Vegas in large numbers for this year’s CES, the world’s largest consumer technology show, following two years of pandemic disruption. CES 2023 attracted more than 3,200 exhibitors, a rise of 70 percent from last year when many opted to attend online. Taking place from January 5-8, CES 2023 highlighted how technological innovations can address the world’s greatest challenges, such as climate change and sustainability.
In line with this, Samsung Display highlighted its own sustainable innovations by showcasing new and existing display technologies under the theme, “Disruptive Tech Journey Unlocks Sustainable Futures.” The exhibit further underlined the company’s commitment to achieve its net zero emissions target by 2050. Here, we take a look at all the products and technologies featured in Samsung Display’s CES 2023 showroom, which was divided into QD-OLED and OLED zones.
Embark on a Journey of OLED Technology
The OLED area was separated into four zones or “journeys,” each with a unique theme relevant to ESG. The segments presented a range of technologies with advanced features aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.
The first journey, “OLED Grows Green,” showcased eco-friendly and low-power technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Here, visitors could see how Samsung Display’s innovations for sustainability, including its Eco² OLED™, Eco² OLED Plus™ technologies, and Green Guard certification, all contribute to the circular economy ecosystem. The process of recycling glass, an irreplaceable resource in the OLED production process, was also explained in clear detail.
Samsung Display’s second zone, “Flex Transforms Tomorrow,” focused on the company’s Flex Hybrid™ technology which generated much interest when it debuted at CES 2023. Flex Hybrid™ is the first product to feature both foldable and slidable technologies in one display. The larger form-factor Flex Slidable Solo™ featured the company’s 17.3-inch slidable display, which can expand the screen in one direction, and Flex Slidable Duet™ , which extends outward in both directions. Also unveiled at this year’s CES were the Flex Note Hybrid™ , Slidable Vertical™, Slidable Wide™ , Slidable Horizontal™, and Slidable Flex display innovations.

The second journey also delved into the technology behind the ultra-high-brightness capabilities of Samsung Display’s OLED smartphone display. The company, the first in the industry, gave Samsung Display's proprietary UDR™(Ultra Dynamic Range) to its OLEDs for smartphones as it is recognized for its high luminance of 2,000 nits by safety science company UL Solutions. The panel is brighter than conventional OLED screens for better visibility under daylight conditions while still maintaining efficient power consumption.
Samsung Display’s OLED panels with a response time up to 10 times faster than conventional LCD screens, were the highlight of the next journey. With Eye Care Display certification from inspection body SGS, the OLED display protects users from harmful blue light. Also on show was the world’s first 240Hz OLED display for laptops, which offers a high refresh rate and smooth motion to make it ideal for gaming.
The final journey “High Road to Next EV” featured OLED EVD™ (Eco-friendly Vehicle Display) embedded in Samsung Display’s New Digital Cockpit. Designed with the self-driving vehicle market in mind, the New Digital Cockpit incorporates both a 34-inch and a 15.6-inch OLED EVD displays with the latter functioning as an entertainment center in autonomous driving mode. The flexible technology, which allows the screen to curve up to 700R on both ends, enhances the driving environment by providing an optimal viewing experience.
Continued Evolution of QD-OLED
Another area of Samsung Display’s CES exhibit featured the company’s newest QD-OLED products. The 2023 line-up includes new sizes, such as a 77-inch TV and a 49-inch ultra-wide monitor, and features high-efficiency organic materials and more advanced AI technology.
New OLED HyperEfficient EL material applied to the blue light emitting layer of Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panel improves the efficiency of the light source to deliver enhanced color intensity and picture quality. Showcased alongside this new material was the Experienced Color Range (XCR), a core technology for quantifying the perceptual brightness of displays.
Another 2023 technology featured in this year’s QD-OLED showcase at CES was IntelliSense AI v2.0, Samsung Display’s advanced optimization algorithm. This AI technology collects information on each pixel in real-time to precisely control light for unsurpassed image quality. The 2023 QD-OLED panels use 25 percent less power compared to the 2022 models and still deliver incredibly accurate colors and richer picture quality.
In this year’s exhibit, 10 works by Italian photographer Franco Fontana were presented on Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels. Dubbed the “magician of color,” Fontana is known for producing color photographs that almost look like paintings. The capacity of QD-OLED technology to precisely express a broad range of colors was instrumental in displaying Fontana’s vibrant and delicate expression in its entirety.

Looking Beyond CES 2023
Samsung Display’s CES exhibit illuminated the company’s leadership in display technology for products ranging from smartphones and laptops to TVs and vehicle displays. The company’s market leadership was readily apparent to the media attending the event who praised the innovative technology that contributed to the superior viewing experience.
The Flex Hybrid™ in particular was recognized by leading tech journalists for delivering dynamic and diverse form factors offering new possibilities for future display products. In addition, Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels earned recognition for their color saturation and brightness surpassing the performance of other manufacturers, as well as improved power efficiency.
The company’s sustainable innovations show that environmentally conscious technology can also be cutting-edge and deliver a better experience for customers. Keeping sustainability in mind, Samsung Display will continue to innovate and challenge what’s possible in 2023 and beyond.
