Eco²OLED™ is a ‘polarizer-free OLED panel’ technology developed by Samsung Display. In a typical OLED display, light comes into the display panel, reaches the electrode (electronic circuit) within the panel, and then gets reflected, resulting in decreased image quality. In order to prevent this from happening a typical display is equipped with a polarizer, an opaque plastic sheet, to minimize light reflection. However, once the light passes the polarizer, its brightness is reduced by more than 50%, resulting in reduced light efficiency. 
 

Eco²OLED™ is the industry’s first technology that internalizes the functionality of a polarizer, but at the same time improves light efficiency. It replaces the polarizer with a layered structure that prevents specular reflection, increasing the light transmission rate by 33% and reducing power consumption by up to 25%.

The name Eco²OLED™ not only reflects its efficient power consumption but also indicates its use of eco-friendly components that reduce the use of plastics. It is an innovative display platform technology that cares about the environment, while contributing to the UPC (Under Panel Camera: a technology that places the camera under the display panel) technology by leveraging the improved light transmission rate.
