On July 1st, gamers worldwide were spellbound by the Black Desert FESTA, an exhilarating festival that brought the popular global massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Black Desert to life. Samsung Display showcased its ultra-high-definition displays at the event, elevating the in-game experience to the next level. 

Stepping into the extraordinary realism of Black Desert 

Pearl Abyss hosted the Black Desert FESTA, providing players with an epic journey into Black Desert. The Black Desert FESTA is an extension of the popular annual summer community event, Heidel Ball, immersing participants in awe-inspiring gaming experience. 

Black Desert is a popular MMORPG game, boasting a staggering player base of 20 million across 150 countries worldwide. The anticipation for this year's Black Desert FESTA was immense, as tickets were quickly sold out. A lucky group of 400 users, referred to as "adventurers," were granted the exclusive opportunity to be part of this extraordinary event. The festival site spanned an impressive area of approximately 5,000 square meters (1,500 square feet), showcasing the game's main regions - Serendia, Calpheon, Valencia, Balenos, and the Land of the Morning Light. Among the five zones, Samsung Display welcomed users to the Serendia zone, the largest and most captivating zone! 

Global adventure brought to life on vivid screens

At the well-organized exhibition of Heidel Manor, there were over 20 meticulously painted creations by numerous skilled adventurers. A 77-inch QD-OLED TV, accompanied by a mural inspired by the in-game city of O'draxxia, showcased the vibrant artwork with exceptional color accuracy and a wide spectrum of colors.

The QD-OLED, with its remarkable size and exceptional image quality, creates an immersive experience that makes viewers feel like they are in a movie production studio. The 2023 QD-OLED utilizes advanced organic materials to enhance the luminous efficiency of the blue emitting layer, resulting in vibrant and vivid colors from the QD emitting layer. Furthermore, Samsung Display’s QD-OLED received accolades for its technological excellence. It received the Display of the Year award, the most prestigious recognition at the annual Display Industry Awards (DIA) presented by the Society for Information Display (SID). 

OLED OR NOT Zone - Find Samsung OLED in your smartphone 

Next to the Heidel Manor exhibition, Samsung Display set up an 'OLED Finder' experience zone, which housed a website that enabled visitors to determine if their smartphones were equipped with Samsung OLED technology. By entering the brand and model names of their devices, visitors were able to determine whether their smartphones featured with Samsung OLED. This search functionality extends beyond Samsung smartphones and includes various global smartphone brands. 

Most OLED-equipped smartphones use Samsung Display’s technology due to their many advantages. These include exceptional image quality, reduced harmful blue light emissions, and minimized plastic utilization.

Captivating gamers with displays optimized for gaming

At Heidel Arena, situated adjacent to Serendia zone, Samsung Display prepared QD-OLED monitors with Galaxy Book 3 Ultra laptops. This setup enabled adventurers to engage in thrilling one-on-one battles.

Monitors optimized for gaming encompass more than just visually striking graphics they also include key specifications like response speed and refresh rate, which directly impact gameplay. In games involving shooting, the variance in hit rate and response time can often determine the outcome between victory and defeat. By playing Black Desert on a QD-OLED monitor, recognized as the next generation of gaming displays, gamers are able to experience unparalleled image quality, elevating their gaming experience to new dimensions. 

The Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, prepared in the Heidel Arena, garnered attention for its sleek design and exceptional performance. Featuring a QHD resolution, it delivered sharper and more defined images. With a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, the video playback was seamlessly smooth, while the HDR rendering showcased intricate details.

“The wide aspect ratio and superb picture quality allowed me to immerse myself in the game. I am genuinely in awe by the QD-OLED monitors, 77-inch TVs, and laptops showcased at today's event,” said Dae-bong Park, a participant who cosplayed as a Joseon Dynasty seon-bi (scholar) to align with the theme of the Black Desert- Land of the Morning Light. “Samsung Display's image quality undoubtedly reigns supreme!" Park enthusiastically gave a thumbs up to emphasize his approval.

Following an intense gaming session, a female participant, nicknamed Tingkuri, shared her thoughts: "Typically, I don't pay much attention to the display while gaming, but this time, I noticed a distinct difference when I used the Samsung QD-OLED monitor. The picture quality is incredibly sharp and vibrant, and the rapid response time is truly impressive!"
