  • Samsung Display highlights QD-OLED collaborations with global leaders SmallHD and Flanders Scientific Inc. (FSI)
  • State-of-the-art QD-OLEDs are recognized as top-tier technology reference monitors for video editing as they offer the highest image quality
  • Expanded QD-OLED product lineup to include 31.5-inch monitor this year after 55- and 65-inch monitors entered the market last year

Samsung Display today unveiled new QD-OLED reference monitors in collaboration with renowned broadcast monitor brands SmallHD and Flanders Scientific Inc. (FSI) at the prestigious National Association of Broadcasters 2024 (NAB 2024) exhibition taking place in Las Vegas, from April 14–17.

Reference monitors are used on film and broadcast productions to check the quality of footage or to calibrate color tones and images to match content concepts. These monitors are essential tools for ensuring the highest quality of captured footage, guaranteeing accurate color reproduction, black depth and luminance.

Generally, reference monitors use high-specification LCDs. However, there is now increasing interest in QD-OLED technology, which offers differentiated image quality, in the reference monitor market. These monitors combine the best features of OLED technology with high-purity self-emissive quantum dots to deliver stunning color expression and distortion-free visuals from any angle. This allows professionals to effectively assess and perfect their content, ensuring it meets their creative vision.

FSI, a recognized leader in the broadcast equipment industry, unveiled this year’s new 31.5-inch QD-OLED reference monitor, XMP310, at NAB 2024. FSI had previously introduced QD-OLED to the broadcast monitor market for the first time by launching 55-inch and 65-inch QD-OLED products last year. Its previous QD-OLED-based reference monitor, XMP550, received high praise and prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Award from the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) and CINE Gear.

FSI exhibited all three of its QD-OLED products at the show. FSI will also be hosting a separate event inviting industry experts to share their QD-OLED experiences.

SmallHD, a strong player in the reference monitor market, also unveiled the Quantum 32, a cutting-edge reference monitor featuring Samsung Display’s 31.5-inch QD-OLED technology.

To showcase its remarkable capabilities, SmallHD has even set up a mini movie theater at its booth, where creators and studio personnel can experience the immersive QD-OLED reference monitor firsthand. SmallHD has been recognized for its technical excellence, winning the Emmy Award for Engineering last year.

“SmallHD is proud to introduce Quantum 32, the first QD-OLED monitor utilizing Samsung Display’s revolutionary panel technology,” said Greg Smokler, Vice Director of SmallHD. “With QD-OLED’s uniform emission of narrow-spectrum RGB light in all directions, creators can achieve the highest level of visual accuracy from first shot to color mastering.”

“By partnering with global broadcasting equipment company SmallHD and FSI, we are making a significant entry into the reference monitor market that demands high-quality visuals of QD-OLED,” said Brad Jung, vice president and head of Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display. “QD-OLED, known for its industry-leading color expression, will provide the optimal solution for reference monitors that need to accurately reproduce the original creator’s vision.”
