SEOUL, August 29, 2024 – Samsung Display revealed today that The Finish Line, one of the UK’s largest post-production companies, has selected Samsung Display’s QD-OLED technology to facilitate high-end work on programs for global broadcasters, such as Netflix, Disney+ and BBC Studios.
The Finish Line’s team of Dolby-certified video technology and color experts have adopted the XMP550 reference monitor, which utilizes Samsung Display’s 55-inch QD-OLED panel. Launched in 2023 by Flanders Scientific Inc. (FSI), a renowned broadcast equipment producer, the XMP550 has been praised by film and broadcast professionals for its superior color grading capabilities. The XMP550 has also received awards from the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) and Cine Gear in the U.S.
“The XMP550 represents a significant leap in HDR technology, providing high luminance levels, excellent viewing angles, no blooming, detailed shadows and no display color volume collapse. They are without a doubt the best displays I’ve ever seen,” said Zeb Chadfield, founder of The Finish Line.
Samsung Display’s QD-OLED technology merges the superb black expression of traditional OLED screens with the amplified color performance of quantum dots, yielding richer color expression and distortion-free image quality viewable from any angle. This effectively caters to the needs of video and broadcasting professionals who prioritize the ability to accurately evaluate the original colors of content and make precise adjustments to editing effects.
Traditional reference monitors have primarily used high-spec LCDs. However, as technologies like QD-OLED emerge as premium choices in the large display market, there’s increasing interest in QD-OLEDs for their unique image quality in the reference monitor market as well. Indeed, after the release of the XMP550 in 2023, FSI expanded its lineup this year to include 31.5-inch and 65-inch QD-OLED models.
Samsung Display plans to leverage QD-OLED’s unmatched image quality to lead the QD-OLED trend in the broadcast reference monitor market.
“The use of FSI’s XMP550 in The Finish Line’s premium studio has once again confirmed the exceptional color reproduction of QD-OLED,” said Brad Jung, Vice President and Head of the Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display. “We will continue to distinguish our image quality with monitors of even higher resolution, further solidifying our position in the professional market for content production.”
