On July 9 (local time), Samsung hosted its Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York. At the event, Samsung unveiled a range of new products, including the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, the Galaxy Watch8 series, and the new entry-level foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip FE. The event drew major global media attention for showcasing the slimmest designs ever, advanced display technology, and AI experiences optimized for the foldable form factor.

Galaxy Z Series Returns with the Slimmest Design Ever

The newly unveiled Galaxy Z Fold7 features the thinnest and lightest design in the series' history—measuring just 8.9mm thick when folded, 4.2mm thick when unfolded, and weighing only 215g. The main display uses titanium materials that are lighter and thinner while maintaining durability. The addition of the Armor FlexHinge ensures a sleek design and helps better distribute external impact. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is 26% thinner.

Also unveiled was the Galaxy Z Flip7, which measures 6.5mm thick when unfolded and 13.7mm thick when folded, making it the slimmest Flip model to date. Weighing just 188g, it offers exceptional portability. The phone features the Advanced Armor Aluminum in the frame and Armor FlexHinge, providing stable and reliable folding mechanics.

Wider Screen, Sharper Immersion! Evolved Display Technology

The Galaxy Z Fold7, equipped with an 8.0-inch main display that is 11% larger than its predecessor when unfolded, offers a more comfortable experience for content editing, multitasking, movie watching, and more. When folded, the cover display features a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 21:9 aspect ratio (approximately 64.9mm in width), allowing users to use the device just like a regular bar-type smartphone.
The main display not only features Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) that is 50% thicker than the previous model, but also incorporates titanium materials to deliver even greater durability.

The Galaxy Z Flip7, featuring the largest 4.1-inch FlexWindow in the Flip series, comes with an ultra-slim 1.25mm bezel. The entire cover, excluding the camera lenses, functions as a screen—significantly improving usability while folded. The main display is a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, delivering vibrant colors. It also supports a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, along with a Vision Booster feature that automatically adjusts brightness based on ambient lighting—ensuring excellent visibility even under bright sunlight. With a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, it provides a highly immersive and optimized experience, even during fast-paced gameplay.

A More Evolved Foldable Experience with AI

The highlight of this Unpacked event was the evolution of the AI experience. Both the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 come preloaded with Galaxy AI and Google Gemini, optimized for the new One UI 8.

In particular, the Galaxy Z Fold7 received a chipset upgrade to ensure smoother operation of AI-powered features. With the newly integrated Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, NPU performance has improved by 41%, CPU by 38%, and GPU by 26% compared to the previous generation. These substantial performance enhancements play a key role in delivering a seamless and immersive experience with Galaxy AI and Google Gemini.

A variety of new AI features closely integrated into everyday life have been introduced. With Gemini Live, users can share their on-screen activity with AI in real time and perform various tasks using only their voice. The AI Agent enhances convenience by allowing users to interact directly without needing to switch apps or copy content. Additionally, Writing Assist and Drawing Assist provide an environment where users can fully focus on their ideas, while the Now Brief feature maximizes productivity by intelligently managing documents, images, and schedules through AI.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 transforms into a personal selfie studio with AI widgets that make full use of the entire cover screen, along with FlexCam and Zoom Slider features. In addition, it is equipped with a high-capacity 4,300mAh battery—the largest ever in a Flip device—enabling longer usage throughout the day. It also supports Samsung DeX, allowing users to connect to an external display and experience a full desktop environment.

A New Approach to Security That Protects Everyday Life

Both the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 feature enhanced security systems across hardware and software. With Knox Matrix, users can maintain secure connections between networks and devices while benefiting from proactive, intuitive security management across the entire Galaxy ecosystem. The newly introduced KEEP feature in One UI 8 creates encrypted, isolated storage spaces for individual apps, providing even stronger protection for sensitive information.

Practical Foldable Enjoyment: The Galaxy Z Flip FE

In addition to the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Fold7, this Unpacked event also introduced the new budget-friendly foldable phone: the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Equipped with key features like a 50MP camera and Galaxy AI, it is expected to be an excellent choice for users looking to enjoy the foldable experience at a more accessible price point.

AI Wearable That Cares for You Every Day: Galaxy Watch8

At this Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled both the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic. The Galaxy Watch8 series combines aesthetics and functionality, featuring a design that is 11% thinner than its predecessor for enhanced comfort and a sleek appearance. It also offers a maximum display brightness of 3,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in bright outdoor environments. The Galaxy Watch8 series offers a variety of features to help users build healthy habits, including sleep coaching, vascular stress monitoring, running guidance, and antioxidant index measurement.

Notably, for the first time in the Watch series, Google Gemini comes preloaded—allowing users to control features with voice commands even when their hands are full, providing a more convenient experience during workouts and daily activities. The new compact design, featuring a smooth rectangular silhouette, reduces strain on the wrist while offering a premium wearing experience.

With these advancements in both foldable smartphones and wearables, the event received widespread praise from media outlets around the world.
