SEOUL/TAIPEI, September 25, 2025 - Samsung Display announced its ambition to lead the mainstream adoption of OLED in IT products such as laptops and monitors, which are posed for explosive growth in the coming years, backed by strong partnerships with global technology leaders.

On September 25, Samsung Display hosted the ‘Samsung OLED IT Summit 2025’ at the Grand Mayfull Hotel in Taipei – the second edition of this annual summit, bringing together more than 400 executives and partners from leading global IT companies, including Intel, Acer, AOC, ASUS, BenQ, Dell Technologies, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Philips, and ViewSonic. Samsung Display showcased more than 20 advanced IT display technologies, presented its business strategies, and shared its long-term vision for the IT OLED market.

Jonghyuk Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Large Display Business and Head of IT Business Team at Samsung Display, delivered a keynote speech titled “IT’s OLED: Catch the Wave,” emphasizing the importance of strong collaboration with global partners to accelerate the mainstream adoption of IT OLED.

“For a technology to become mainstream, three conditions must be met: delivering new consumer experiences, ensuring accessibility through balanced price and value, and building strong ecosystem partnerships,” Lee explained. “IT OLED is already providing lifelike image quality and immersive viewing experiences, while recent production innovations are making it more affordable and accessible. Now that the mainstream adoption of IT OLED has begun, it is time for device makers, component suppliers, and software partners to work together to capture this market and create a wave of growth,” he added.

Beyond its premium IT OLED lineup, Samsung Display introduced new mainstream IT OLED products that integrate multiple driving components into a single integrated circuit (IC) that reduces costs while maintaining performance, thereby expanding customer and consumer choice.

“With true black, accurate vivid colors, and spectacular contrast ratios, OLED is an ideal choice for laptops and monitors seeking to deliver the immersive visual experiences people pursue,” said Tom Lattie, Head of PC and Game Devices at Dolby Laboratories, during his presentation ‘Maximize Your Viewing Experience.’ “I am excited that Samsung Display's expanding OLED portfolio will bring HDR experiences like Dolby Vision to more PC users.”

Joe Qiao, Head of Monitor of JD Electronics Business Group at Jingdong Dotcom (JD.COM) said, “OLED monitors are recognized as premium products because of their excellent quality characteristics.” He added, “We expect OLED monitor sales to increase rapidly in the future, especially as consumers’ interest in gaming IT products is increasing as the Chinese game industry is growing rapidly.”

As on-device AI drives greater demand for energy-efficient displays, the summit included a panel discussion, “Power Saving & New Standard in AI Era.” Intel’s Kunjal Parikh, Chief Technologist and Product Architect for the PC ecosystem, highlighted the importance of display power efficiency: “Displays often account for more than half of a PC’s power consumption. Through close collaboration with Samsung Display, we’ve greatly improved battery life for millions of devices worldwide.”

At the summit, Samsung Display showcased its next-generation low-power technology, ‘UT One,’ which drew strong interest from attendees. UT One is the first IT OLED panel to support a 1Hz variable refresh rate, made possible by applying Oxide TFT technology. By adjusting the refresh rate depending on the content, it significantly extends battery life. In a demo, laptops equipped with UT One achieved about three hours longer battery life compared to those with standard OLED panels.

In addition, the ‘SmartPower HDR’ power-saving technology, jointly developed with Intel, as well as Samsung Display’s latest lineup of cost-competitive QD-OLED monitors received positive feedback from attendees.

According to global market research firm Omdia, OLED accounted for about 3% of laptop and monitor display shipments in 2024, but is projected to reach approximately 13% by 2029. In the first half of this year, Samsung Display shipped about 4.9 million OLED panels for laptops and monitors–a 50% increase from the same period last year. In the second quarter alone, it shipped more than four times as many panels as its competitor, achieving a 74% market share.
