From the world's first mass production to 5 million units shipped~
surpassed 5 million cumulative shipments this March just four years after entering mass production. Combining self-emissive technology with quantum dots, QD-OLED delivers precise color, near-infinite contrast, and ultra-fast response times, setting a new standard for picture quality. Now firmly established in the premium monitor segment, here's a look at the QD-OLED journey from the start to today. Samsung Display's QD-OLED monitors
The Dawn of QD-OLED Monitors! Samsung Display began developing QD-OLED in 2018, achieving the world's first mass production in November 2021 and shipping its first panels. The following March, the first QD-OLED monitor, Dell's Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor, launched, marking the beginning of a new era in monitors.
Expanded lineup, upgraded performance! In 2023, just a year after QD-OLED monitors first hit the market, the lineup quickly expanded to 27-, 31.5-, 34-, and 49-inch models. Performance also improved significantly. Using ultra-precise inkjet printing technology, pixel density was increased up to 140 PPI, enabling UHD-resolution models. A 27-inch 360Hz model also joined the lineup, helping QD-OLED gain real traction in the premium monitor segment.
Over 1 million units sold, and growing fast! In May 2024, QD-OLED monitors surpassed 1 million cumulative shipments, about 2.5 years after mass production began. Through expanded with global brands, the lineup grew to more than 90 models. By the end of the year, shipments exceeded 2 million units. Alongside this rapid growth, image quality has advanced even further. With exceptional color accuracy, QD-OLED became the first monitor technology to receive Pantone validation, broadening its reach into professional fields such as video editing and content creation, where precise color reproduction is critical.
Top-tier specs, a hit in the gaming market! At CES 2025, new 27-inch panels debuted, including UHD 240Hz and QHD 500Hz models. The popular 27-inch format combines ultra-high resolution with ultra-fast refresh rates, capturing strong interest from gamers. Samsung Display also showcased QD-OLED at major global events such as Gamescom, Computex, and Tokyo Game Show, partnering with leading monitor and gaming brands to deliver hands-on experiences. QD-OLED panels were adopted in over 150 models across 20 global monitor brands.
A new leap in innovation! In 2026, QD-OLED took another step forward. The new "V-stripe" pixel structure, designed around user needs, improves text clarity, while the "Penta Tandem™" architecture stacking five layers of blue OLED significantly boosts efficiency, brightness, and lifespan. Combined with low-reflection "Quantum Black™" technology, it delivers deep blacks even in bright environments while also enhancing overall durability.
have led the premium monitor segment through continuous technological evolution. Since entering the monitor market, the technology has recorded over 320% average annual growth over the past four years, reaching 5 million cumulative shipments. QD-OLED continues to evolve with class-leading image quality and differentiated technology. Samsung Display's QD-OLED Now becoming a new standard in the premium monitor space.
