'True Black 1400', the certification earned by Samsung Display's laptop OLED, is a new certification tier introduced by VESA to verify the HDR performance of OLED. Black levels must stay at 0.0005 nits or lower, while peak brightness of 1,400 nits (at 10% OPR) and full-screen brightness of at least 700 nits must also be met. Samsung Display's laptop OLED, certified to 'True Black 1400', applies newly developed organic materials and a tandem architecture that stacks two organic emissive layers to achieve high brightness. In tandem OLED, the stacked emissive layers emit light together, so it can achieve higher brightness at the same current. At the same brightness, this reduces the load on the emissive layers, extending the lifespan to more than twice that of a conventional single-stack OLED panel. On top of this, newly developed organic materials have been applied to further improve screen brightness and lifespan.
