Black Matrix R,G,B Sub Pixel BM Black Matrix The Black Matrix (BM) is the black light blocking area that separates the red, green, and blue (RGB) sub-pixels. It blocks unwanted light and prevents light from adjacent sub-pixels from mixing, enhancing color purity and contrast.
LCD Layout Polarizer Glass R G B Black Matrix Color Filter Liquid TFT Glass Polarizer Backlight Unit In LCDs, the black matrix is a key component of the color filter process. It prevents backlight leakage between pixels and helps prevent increases in TFT leakage current caused by external light. As a self-emissive display, OLED does not require a backlight, so there is no need to block backlight leakage. Instead of BM, a Pixel Define Layer (PDL) is used to define and separate the emission areas of individual sub-pixels. However, in polarizer-free OLED displays, BM can be used to suppress external light reflections that may occur when the polarizer is removed.
