Samsung Display’s Booth Drawing Crowds with Its Experience-Driven Exhibition!

Samsung Display was the first company in the display industry to participate in Gamescom 2022, one of the three major gaming shows around the world. This year’s event was held in Cologne, Germany, between August 24 and 28, for the first time in two years since the last offline event. Samsung Display’s booth became one of the hottest spots at the gaming event thanks to the display features and technologies optimized for gaming such as high refresh rates, short response times, and eye protection.

The popularity of Samsung’s exhibition was essentially thanks to it being a game-display experience rather than a regular exhibition to allow visitors to try and experience displays that are optimized for gaming. Let us dive deeply into Samsung Display’s technologies that fascinate gamers worldwide and its exciting collaboration with gaming companies.

Experience-Driven Exhibition Leveraging Collaboration with Gaming Companies: Maximum Image Quality and Next-Level Gaming Hardware

Under the theme of ‘What’s the Next Gaming Display,’ Samsung Display demonstrated technologies tailored to gaming such as laptop OLED displays with a refresh rate of 240Hz, flex gaming, TV displays that pushes the limit of image quality, and QD-OLED displays for computer screens. Most importantly, the exhibition was constructed to be experience-driven in collaboration with gaming companies.

The picture above shows one of the most popular spots that demonstrate Samsung Display's successful collaboration with a gaming company. Visitors were offered to play Pearl Abyss's MMORPG Game called 'Black Desert Online' on the Samsung Display's high-resolution OLED/QD-OLED displays. In addition to the various programs planned for visitors to compare different levels of display resolution, experience future technologies, and take photos as souvenirs, all of which were massively popular. Continue to scroll down to find out the details of the gaming display technologies showcased in each exhibition zone.

Clear, Uninterrupted Images on the World’s First 240Hz OLED Display for Laptops

[OLED Gaming Experience Zone]

In the case of gaming laptops, together with fancy graphics, specifications that closely affect actual play, such as response speed and injection rate, are very important. For instance, the specifications of a display can impact the accuracy of shots in a shooter game, and the response time can determine whether you win or lose. Recognizing this, Samsung Display set up the OLED Gaming Experience Zone, where visitors could actually play a third-person shooter game on the 240Hz OLED laptop to compare the performance of existing displays with OLED and QD-OLED displays.

In fact, MSI’s ‘Raider GE67 HX,’ the 15.6-inch gaming laptop that uses an OLED display with a refresh rate of 240Hz for the first time in the world, was installed at the booth for visitors to try. A third-person shooter game is played with the player as a third person watching their own character rather than from the perspective of the character itself, and the visitors commented that the difference in the display quality was more palpable.

Clear Colors, Detailed Expression, and Best-in-Class Image Quality

[QD-OLED Zone]

What would be the advantage of a display that delivers vivid images with unparalleled quality? It drives immersion. The ‘QD-OLED’ display, which was recently launched, is attracting much attention as the next-generation gaming display that ensures a high level of immersion. The experience zone showcased a 34-inch QD-OLED display screen to play Dark Desert Online on and a 65-inch QD-OLED TV to play a shooter game on, inviting gamers to experience image quality that they had never encountered before.

The QD-OLED displays are trendy for bringing to life the spectacular images often found in gaming graphics leveraging the outstanding RGB luminance and expansive color gamut, enabling the displays to reproduce highly pure RGB colors. The response time of 0.1ms, which is ten times faster than existing displays, delivers seamless and clear images. At the same time, the excellent ability to reproduce low-level gradients expresses characters and backgrounds clearly, even in predominantly dark graphics.

Fold and Unfold – Enjoying Your Games Anywhere, Anytime

Can a smartphone provide an optimal display for gaming anytime and anywhere? The answer was found at the Future Technology Zone. ‘Flex gaming,’ showcased by Samsung Display at this exhibition, captured the attention of gamers. The 7.2-inch display was well received for its next-generation gaming form factor that allows it to be folded in half when used as a smartphone and then unfolded into a larger screen for gaming. When the display is used vertically, the top of the screen is used for graphics while the controller is shown at the bottom of the screen. The ability to create a variety of gaming settings is a huge advantage.
